Coleman Wong overcame a sluggish start to defeat his doubles partner for a berth in the Hong Kong Open quarterfinals at Victoria Park.
The Hong Kong, China tennis star battled sixth-seeded Canadian Gabriel Diallo in the round of 16 at Centre Court on Wednesday.
Diallo took control quickly, taking the opening set 6-1.
Wong found his footing in the second set, racing to a 5-2 lead before his opponent reeled off three straight games to tie the score.
Wong then managed to break Diallo's serve to win the set 7-5.
The third and deciding set was also closely fought.
It was tied at 5-5 before Wong broke Diallo's serve one more time to win the set 7-5 for the victory.
Also in the round of 16, top-seeded Italian Lorenzo Musetti battled past Argentina’s Tomas Etcheverry 6-7, 6-2, 6-4, while No. 3 seed Andrey Rublev of Russia also came from behind to eliminate China's Wu Yibing 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
