Edgar Cheung grabs foil bronze at Grand Prix in Turin

Star Hong Kong, China fencer Edgar Cheung battled to a bronze medal in the men's foil at the Grand Prix in Italy.

The two-time Olympic gold medallist from the SAR powered through the early rounds in Turin and took on world number eight Nick Itkin of the United States in the semi-finals.

It was tied at 3-3 before Itkin surged ahead. Cheung cut the deficit to 7-8 before a strong finish by the American closed out the bout 15-9.

Itkin was defeated by Guillaume Bianchi of Italy in the final, whereas both Cheung and Alexander Choupenitch of the Czech Republic took bronze.

Cheung's world number one teammate Ryan Choi fell in the first round, while Harris Ho, Lawrence Ng and Lam Ho-long from the SAR also made first-round exits.
