Hong Kong sensation Ka Ying Rising cemented his place in racing history on Sunday, storming to his 18th consecutive victory in the Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup at Sha Tin.
Trained by David Hayes and ridden by Zac Purton, the champion cruised through the field to claim the top-tier 1,400-metre event, crossing the finish line nearly three lengths ahead of his rivals.
"He's the horse of a lifetime... I just pinch myself every time I ride him. He's in a league of his own," Purton said after coming home in a record time of 1min 19.36sec.
"These are good class horses he's beaten today. Let's hope he can stay in this form for another 12 to 18 months."
The win sees the reigning Hong Kong Horse of the Year surpass the legendary Silent Witness, who set the previous record of 17 straight wins back in 2005.
Ka Ying Rising beat a top-class international field at the Everest in Sydney last October to cement his standing as the world's best sprinter. (Additional reporting by AFP)
