Hong Kong, China, secured its first medal of this year’s Asian Beach Games in Sanya, Hainan, on Saturday, earning silver in the aquathlon mixed relay.

The team – composed of Bailee Brown, Hilda Choi, Wong Tsz-to and Mark Yu – finished the race in one hour, two minutes and 35 seconds.

They crossed the line 51 seconds behind the gold medal-winning national team, while Japan rounded out the podium.

A total of 11 teams competed in the event.

Yeung Wing-sun, vice-president of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and chef de mission for the delegation, praised the team’s effort.

"With sheer determination and steady performance, they outpaced their rivals to claim the silver medal, fully demonstrating sportsmanship and team spirit," he said.

"This is truly inspiring. We look forward to seeing our athletes continue to perform at their best in the events ahead and achieve outstanding results."

The Asian Beach Games, returning after a 10-year hiatus, runs from April 22 to 30.
