Hong Kong, China star Ceci Lee on Thursday rode her way to bronze in the elimination race at the Japan Track Cup, opening her campaign on a high note despite a momentary lapse of concentration in the final laps that nearly cost her a medal.
Lee, a four-time national champion who's ramping up her form ahead of the Asian Games in September, appeared alongside teammate Chloe Leung at Izu Velodrome.
The pair had been in the front of the pack for most of the race before committing an error with four laps to go, when both riders mistakenly thought they had been knocked out and slowed down.
Lee quickly recovered, finishing the race in third behind winner Tsuyaka Uchino from Japan and the national team's Chen Ning, while Leung came back fourth.
Lee is set to contend for more medals on Friday, as she appears at the madison event alongside Leung, before bidding for a medal in the omnium.
The four-day tournament runs until Sunday.
