The Hong Kong, China football team got off to a winning start under new head coach Roberto Losada, securing a 2-0 victory over Mongolia on Friday night's international friendly at Hong Kong Stadium.
The 49-year-old Spaniard, who was officially confirmed in the permanent role earlier in the day after serving as interim boss since December, watched his side take control of the match in the opening stages.
The breakthrough came in the fifth minute, when a clever through pass from Everton Camargo found Ma Hei-wai inside the penalty box, who provided a clinical cutback for Juninho to smoothly slot the ball home.
However, the SAR’s attack found it hard to break through their opponents' defence afterwards.
It was not until 10 minutes from time that substitute Ng Yu-hei stroke a wonderful free kick that sealed the victory in front of more than 6,000 fans.
Losada said he was happy to "start a new era" in the SAR team with a win.
"We still have a lot of things to improve, we have a long journey to walk. But I saw also many good things, good players, good attitude, and very happy to see the fans' support in the boys. Our strength is the fans," he said.
The SAR next face Cambodia in Phnom Penh on Tuesday in another friendly.
