Hong Kong, China’s Siobhan Haughey, known affectionately as the city's flying fish, soared to gold in her signature 200 metres freestyle event at the Sette Colli Trophy meet in Italy.
Battling sweltering heatwave conditions at the outdoor venue in Rome, the city’s swimming star put on a masterclass in the final.
She stopped the clock at one minute and 55 seconds, powering to victory with a commanding lead of more than two seconds over the rest of the field.
Italian teenager Alessandra Mao claimed silver while her compatriot Anna Chiara Mascolo rounded out the podium in third.
The win extends Haughey’s impressive run of form, following last month’s Mare Nostrum tour, where she collected a spectacular four golds and four silvers across Monaco, Canet-en-Roussillon and Barcelona.
Her performance in Canet was particularly notable, as she blazed to one minute and 54.13 seconds in the same 200 metres event, shattering the meet record in stunning fashion.
