Hong Kong, China shuttler Angus Ng on Thursday powered into the round of 16 at the World Badminton Championships in New Delhi after beating Japan's Kenta Nishimoto in three games.
The SAR player, ranked 30th in the world, needed one hour and 19 minutes to prevail 17-21, 21-16, 21-18 at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.
The hard-fought victory sets up a meeting with ninth-seeded Alex Lainer of France, with a spot in the quarter-finals on the line.
Ng, who won the German Open three years ago, is the only Hong Kong player remaining in the men's singles competition, with Lee Cheuk-yiu having bowed out in his last 32 encounter on Wednesday.
The Badminton World Championships run until this Sunday.
