The Hong Kong, China football squad made history on Saturday at Kai Tak Stadium, defeating Cambodia 2-0 to lift the first-ever Asean Challenge Cup.
Playing before a passionate crowd of 31,000 fans, the SAR team scored a goal in each half. Striker Matt Orr opened the scoring in the 41st minute, after a brilliant through ball delivered by Sun Ming-him.
The hosts would later double their lead in the 52nd minute, after a tackle on Philip Chan by a Cambodian defender inside the box. A VAR intervention resulted in a penalty, which Everton Camargo confidently converted.
With the victory, Hong Kong made history as the first champions of the Fifa Asean Challenge Cup.
The inaugural 2026 competition, a Fifa-backed tournament designed to boost football competitiveness across Asia, is split into two-divisions. The SAR played host to Division 2, while Division 1 matches are taking place in Indonesia.
