Hong Kong, China secured its first gold medal at the Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Wednesday after boccia athlete Vivian Lau fended off teammate Cheung Yuen in an all-SAR women's individual BC4 final.
Lau was in full control of the gold medal match at Nagoya City General Gymnasium.
The 47-year-old went up 3-0 after the first end, extending her lead to 7-0 by the end of third.
Cheung finally got on the scoreboard in the fourth, but it was too little, too late.
Lau came away with a 7-2 win.
This was her second gold at the Asian Para Games, having won pairs BC4 in Incheon in 2014.
Cheung, 27, has finished on the podium in consecutive Games, after collecting a bronze at the same event in Hangzhou.
In the women's individual BC2 final, Yeung Hiu-lam came up agonisingly short, losing to Indonesia's Gischa Zayana 5-6 to settle for silver.
In the men's individual BC4 final, veteran Leung Yuk-wing squandered an early lead and was beaten by Thailand's Pornchok Larpyen 3-5.
His teammate John Loung, meanwhile, took bronze in the individual BC1 event, rallying from a 1-5 deficit in the final end to defeat Muhamad Syafa of Indonesia 6-5 in the third-place match.
