There are tense scenes in the US city of Los Angeles after National Guard troops face off with protesters who decry raids on individuals accused of immigration violations. The troops were deployed by US President Donald Trump after days of unrest. As Jamie Clarke reports, the demonstrations pit Democratic-run Los Angeles against Trump's Republican White House - which has made an immigration crackdown a hallmark of his second term.

Beijing has announced that Vice Premier He Lifeng will meet the US delegation for trade talks this week in Britain. The discussions will mark the second round of such negotiations between the world's two biggest economies since US President Donald Trump launched his trade war shortly after returning to the White House in January. It comes after President Xi Jinping on Thursday had a phone call with his US counterpart at the latter's request. Zhou Bo is a retired People's Liberation Army senior colonel who is now a senior fellow of the Centre for International Security and Strategy at Tsinghua University. He told Aaron Tam about the significance of the phone call in de-escalating tensions.

An outdoor satellite tracking system jointly developed by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) and the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) has won a gold medal at the annual International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva. While initially designed to allow pilots send out distress signals in emergencies, the system can also be applied in day-to-day scenarios such as hiking and water sports. Project engineer Leo Yeung spoke to Carlos Leung about the invention.

A Colombian senator has survived an initial operation for injuries he sustained after being shot multiple times in the country's capital on Saturday. He is said to be in intensive care, in an extremely serious condition. A boy was arrested in connection with the shooting while the government said it was investigating if there were other perpetrators. Jamie Clarke again.
