Mainland university students warned against scams

Police are urging mainland students studying in Hong Kong to be vigilant against scams. The force said the first one or two weeks of the new school year were a peak period for scams targeting students from the mainland. Dozens of the 2,500 phone scam cases in the first five months of this year targeted mainland students, with the largest loss in a single case totalling about HK$9.2 million. Grace Wong, chief inspector of Police of the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre at the Commercial Crime Bureau, told Lauren Kee that while previous promotional efforts helped reduce losses, maintaining awareness was crucial.

N Korea offers full support to Russia over Ukraine war

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has told Russia's top diplomat that his country is ready to "unconditionally support" Moscow's efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. That's according to state media, as the two men held strategic talks over the weekend. North Korea has provided troops and arms for Russia's war in Ukraine and has pledged more military support as Moscow tries to make advances in the conflict. Jamie Clarke reports.
Wang Yi holds bilateral talks in Beijing with Russian FM

Children killed at water collection site in Gaza

At least 10 Palestinians, including six children, have been killed in an Israeli strike which it said had missed its intended target. Around a dozen others were wounded in the attack in central Gaza. The victims had been on their way to collect water when the strike hit. Optimism had grown last week that the warring sides were close to reaching an agreement on a ceasefire. But as a new week starts and the violence continues, that optimism is dwindling. Jamie Clarke reports.
EU delays retaliatory tariffs on US goods

The European Union says it'll once again push back retaliatory tariffs on US exports. The countermeasures in response to US President Donald Trump's duties on steel and aluminium were due to take effect on Tuesday, after they were suspended in March. The latest break sees the tariffs delayed until early August. But as Jamie Clarke reports, Trump's latest announcement of 30 percent blanket tariffs on EU imports may start to test the unity of the bloc.

Trade association welcomes expanded Bond Connect scheme

An independent regional trade association has forecast that international investors will hold 10 percent of China's onshore bonds in the coming years, up from three percent right now. That's after Beijing further expanded the Bond Connect scheme last week, allowing mainland non-banking institutions, including brokerages, insurers, mutual funds, and wealth managers, to access offshore bonds using the southbound leg of the trade link. Philippe Dirckx, managing director and head of fixed income at the Asia Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, told Chloe Feng that the measures will boost the growth of so-called dim sum bonds, or the yuan-denominated debts issued in the SAR, while paving the way for more global investors to increase their allocations on domestic bonds.

Visitors get the chance to play drone soccer

Drone soccer will be on display when the Hong Kong Sports and Leisure Expo kicks off this Wednesday. The one-week event takes place at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. The expo presents a variety of sports and leisure brands, and products and experiences. There'll also be e-dodgeball. Drone soccer has been included as a Mass Participation Event in the upcoming National Games.
