Israel's prime minister has sought to defend a new military offensive in one of Gaza's most populated areas, amid growing condemnation at home and abroad. Benjamin Netanyahu told a press conference the new operation would be implemented quickly, insisting this is the "best way to end the war". European nations have rallied around Ukraine, saying peace in the war-torn nation can't be resolved without Kyiv. That's ahead of an upcoming meeting between the presidents of Russia and the United States. The US ambassador to Nato, Matthew Whitaker, has told CNN it's possible that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could join Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin at their talks in Russia on Friday, but nothing has been confirmed yet. US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin are set to meet on Friday to discuss a potential ceasefire in Ukraine. The first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since 2021 will take place in the US state of Alaska. RTHK's Washington correspondent, Simon Marks, explained to Ben Tse the significance of Putin setting foot on American soil:

Police in Hong Kong have said they've conducted an operation with their Shenzhen counterparts to bust a cross-border syndicate that forged and sold fake concert tickets. As Wendy Wong reports, twelve suspects were arrested in the operation.

A psychiatrist says Hong Kong's mental health services are too fragmented, making it hard for patients -- especially children -- to get the help they need. Chan Chung-mau, convenor of the Hong Kong Mental Health Council says many groups are involved, from doctors and nurses to social workers and NGOs, but there's no single authority to coordinate them. He's urging the government to set up a central body so patients and families can access care more easily, and to streamline services through multidisciplinary teams. He spoke to Wendy Wong.

The Hong Kong Family Mediation Association has found that most carers of children with special educational needs, or SEN, are under long-term pressure. A survey co-hosted by the association and NGO JCI Lion Rock that interviewed more than 200 carers showed that some of them have to spend more than 14 hours a day to look after the children. The association's executive director Fish Leung told Wallis Wang that many carers are feeling helpless and require support.
Novel hip replacement surgery to cut recovery time for patients  Listenfacebook
Patients who undergo full hip replacement surgery at public hospitals could recover faster and better retain their muscle strength, thanks to a more novel approach. But the innovative method is only in its budding stage in Hong Kong. Orthopaedic surgeon Gloria Lam from Nethersole Hospital in Tai Po hopes more doctors can be trained to operate the procedure. Young doctor touts importance of thalassemia screening programme  Listenfacebook
Fourteen public hospital workers were honoured in the annual Hospital Authority Young Achievers Award this year. They include Luke Chan, an associate consultant of medicine and geriatrics at Princess Margaret Hospital. In 2017, he launched a screening programme to detect patients suffering from non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia, an inherited blood disorder. Chan said the disease would affect patients' life quality, so prompt treatment was essential. He told Wallis Wang that local clinical research is also a crucial area of his work, as there is not a lot of research data globally.
Cambodian monks march for peace amid tensions with Thailand  Listenfacebook
Over 2,500 Buddhist monks have held a peace march, calling for the full respect of a ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand. The march, in Cambodia, comes a day after three Thai soldiers were injured by a landmine near the Cambodian border. A statement from the Thai army said the soldiers were being treated in hospital, and blamed Cambodia for the incident, as Jamie Clarke reports:
