A travel agent who has been given exclusive rights to sell physical tickets for the National Games says buyers must carry and produce proof of identity when entering event venues. The tourism trade, meanwhile, expects the forthcoming sports gala to lure visitors to the city. Chloe Feng reports.
HK shuttlecock players to debut at National Games  Listenfacebook
For the first time ever, Hong Kong will field a shuttlecock team in the mass participation event at the National Games. The SAR players will be looking to promote and preserve the ancient Chinese sport locally, while embracing the Games' mission, which is to "benefit ordinary people, and make a healthy China". The shuttlecock events will also offer members of the public a rare chance to represent Hong Kong on a national level. Hailey Yip has this report:

Hong Kong was yet again drenched by downpours on Thursday, with the Observatory issuing the year's fifth black rainstorm warning. The Drainage Services Department reported at least six flooding cases, while classes and court sessions were suspended. The Airport Authority said more than a hundred flights were cancelled or delayed. Frank Yung reports.

Shoes for primary pupils found with carcinogens, harmful substances  Listenfacebook
The Consumer Council has warned of health risks arising from shoes for primary pupils, after detecting harmful substances in nearly half of the tested samples. It urged manufacturers to improve the designs and materials used to make the shoes to protect children's health. The watchdog's director of research and survey, Angel Cheung, told Lauren Kee that the substances can post higher risks to children with wounds or eczema on their feet.
Triage system to drastically cut waiting times for eye disease patients  Listenfacebook
Patients in the Kowloon East and Hong Kong West hospital clusters may be able to have eye diseases treated within eight weeks, instead of waiting for more than two years at present. It's part of a community eye-screening project conducted by the University of Hong Kong and the eye specialist NGO Orbis. Since June 2023, they have provided eye check-ups for more than 5,800 public housing estate residents aged 50 or above. Doctor Christopher Leung from HKU's Department of Ophthalmology spoke to Charlie Chun.

Israel has announced a settlement that critics say will effectively sever the West Bank in two. Palestinians and rights groups worry the construction in the Israeli-occupied territory will foil plans for a future Palestinian state. 'Trump and Putin meeting in Alaska is significant in itself'  Listenfacebook
US President Donald Trump is set to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday to discuss how to end the war in Ukraine. The high-stakes meeting will take place at a military base in Anchorage that was built in 1940, and served as a command point to guard against threats from the Soviet Union during the Cold War. RTHK's Washington correspondent, Simon Marks said that the location of the meeting is significant in itself:

Torrential rains have triggered flash floods in Indian Kashmir, killing at least 46 people and leaving dozens missing. Rescue teams scouring a Himalayan village have brought at least 200 people to safety. Jamie Clarke reports:
Countries race to close out deal to tackle plastic pollution  Listenfacebook
Talks to create the world's first legally-binding agreement to tackle plastic pollution are at risk of ending yet again without an agreement. Countries are racing to find a potential breakthrough and reach a compromise on the final day of negotiations in Geneva. This is the sixth time nations are meeting to decide whether to tackle the exponential growth of plastic production. Talks last year in South Korea were supposed to be the final round, but they adjourned in December at an impasse over cutting production. Jamie Clarke has details:
