Researchers at the University of Hong Kong have developed the world's first artificial intelligence model that can identify the fertilisation potential of human sperm. They say the technology is faster and more reliable than traditional methods of manual semen analysis. The model has the potential to improve overall infertility management and reduce the risk of fertilisation failure in assisted reproduction such as In Vitro Fertilisation or IVF. Dr Erica Leung, who is a post-doctoral fellow from the university's Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, spoke to Lauren Kee.
Trump slams S Korea ahead of talks with Lee  Listenfacebook
US President Donald Trump has welcomed South Korea's new leader to the White House, though his talks with Lee Jae-myung had an awkward start. Hours before the leader's arrival, Trump had taken to social media to denounce what he said was a "Purge or Revolution" in South Korea -- comments he later walked back as a "likely misunderstanding". He also spoke of his desire to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un this year. Jamie Clarke reports:

US President Donald Trump has said China has to give the United States rare earth magnets or face tariffs of 200 percent. He made the comments while hosting his South Korean counterpart, Lee Jae-myung at the White House. Last week, Beijing unveiled a set of interim rules to strengthen the control and management of rare earth mining, smelting and separation. According to state media, annual quota targets will be set depending on national economic development goals, the country's rare earth reserves, industry development, ecological protection, and market demand.

Typhoon Kajiki has brought torrential rains to Vietnam's north central coast, felling trees and flooding homes. That's despite wind speeds tapering off as it made landfall on Monday afternoon. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel deeply regrets what he described as the "tragic mishap" that occurred at the Nasser hospital in Gaza on Monday. Israeli airstrikes on the hospital killed at least twenty people, including five journalists who worked for agencies including Reuters, the Associated Press and Al Jazeera. This is just the latest incident of Israel killing journalists and media workers, protected by international law, whilst bombarding the Gazan enclave. Jamie Clarke reports:

The death toll in Gaza has hit 62,000, while the number of injured exceeded 150,000, with actual figures likely to be even higher since the start of the Israel-Hamas war nearly two years ago. That's according to Varsen Aghabekian - the Palestinian Authority's minister for foreign affairs.

Bangladesh says it has run out of resources for Rohingya refugees, and is urging the international community to find a sustainable solution to the crisis. Monday marked the eighth anniversary since more than 700,000 Rohingya arrived in Bangladesh within a matter of days, turning the area around a coastal town into the world's largest refugee settlement. Some see the upgrades in coding and accuracy as a major leap forward, while others feel the chatbot is becoming "cold and distant". The growing backlash even forced the San Francisco-based firm to bring back the more human-like GPT-4o to paid users, and roll out tweaks to make GPT-5 "warmer and friendly".
