The airport's north runway was shut down for more than an hour on Monday, after a Hong Kong Express flight arriving from Beijing reportedly struck signage while taxiing. Passengers on the plane waited for about 90 minutes before they got off. The Air Accident Investigation Authority, under the Transport and Logistics Bureau, is to conduct a probe into the case. A spokesman for the Hong Kong Meteorological Society, Leung Wing-mo, says tropical cyclones like Tapah are developing in the South China Sea because of the favourable conditions there. There's fresh political turmoil in the Turkish city of Istanbul, after a court-appointed trustee has taken over the office of the country's main opposition party, following police intervention. Party lawmakers had staged a sit-in at the provincial headquarters to protest the move. As Jamie Clarke reports, tensions escalated when riot police used tear gas to disperse those inside, and scuffled with supporters who defied a temporary ban on public gatherings:
'Mushroom murderer' gets life in prison with parole  Listenfacebook
An Australian judge has sentenced convicted killer Erin Patterson to life in prison for murdering three people with toxic mushrooms, with the possibility of parole after 33 years. Fifty-year-old Patterson was earlier found guilty of triple murder for serving Beef Wellingtons laced with death cap mushrooms to her estranged husband's relatives. The presiding judge at the Supreme Court of Victoria said the substantial planning of the murders and Patterson's lack of remorse meant her punishment should be lengthy. The trial attracted global media interest, with the court allowing for the first time a sentencing hearing to be broadcast live on TV. China's total foreign trade rose 3.5 percent year on year in August in yuan-denominated terms. It marked the third straight month that both exports and imports saw growth. But shipments to the United States continued to fall, amid trade tensions between the world's two largest economies. Lau Hon-ting reports.
