Local banks have raised their best-lending rates by 12.5 basis points. That puts them up to 5.75 percent for Bank of China and HSBC, while Standard Chartered's prime rate is now six percent. The banks boosted borrowing costs after the Hong Kong Monetary Authority increased its Base Rate to 5.5 percent, in lock-step with a quarter of a percentage point hike by the US Federal Reserve on Wednesday. The principal of a primary school in Kennedy Town says he has no plans to close his school or merge it with another. This is despite officials rejecting an appeal from St Charles School after authorities ordered the 69-year-old institution not to take in primary one students for the next academic year, after falling one short of the minimum quota. The Consumer Council is calling for more transparency from property developers on home owners' rights and management fees. It conducted a two-year study after receiving hundreds of complaints. The watchdog says it struggled to resolve a lot of the complaints relating to property management charges or service quality because of the complexity of the issues involved. It found most flat owners did not know how management shares were allocated so they did not know how much of a building's running costs they would have to pay. It said this could hamper a buyer's ability to make informed decisions when looking for a new home. The council's Antonio Kwong told Hailey Yip that flat owners should get involved in property management activities:

A high school student says she was pleasantly surprised to scoop a top international award for a virtual reality app she developed for dementia sufferers. Ingrid Chan won a Gold Plus award at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions. The German Swiss International School student says she developed the app after her grandparents were diagnosed with dementia three years ago. Users don VR headsets to play games and perform household activities to help stimulate their senses. Chan told Samantha Butler that she hoped to work with tech companies and NGOs to distribute the app more widely:

A new type of glasses to slow the progression of short-sightedness, or myopia, in children - developed by Polytechnic University - has won two awards at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions. An expert in gerontology and geriatrics says people should not just look to drugs to treat Alzheimer's, after American pharmaceutical company, Eli Lilly, reported that its drug - donanemab - slowed cognitive decline by about a third. The medicine works by removing plaque build-ups in the brain, known as amyloid. Jean Woo from the Chinese University's Faculty of Medicine, said it was encouraging that new drugs were being developed for the degenerative brain disease. But she told Frank Yung that many cases of dementia could be prevented by factors, such as exercising more or not smoking:

Russia says it is facing an "unprecedented" wave of sabotage from Ukraine - a day after an alleged drone strike against the Kremlin. Moscow has now accused the United States and Ukraine of working together on the attack, which it says was an attempt on President Putin's life. Both Kyiv and the White House deny this. US National Security spokesman, John Kirby, said Washington did not encourage or enable Ukraine to strike outside its borders. On Saturday, Britain's King Charles will be crowned at Westminster Abbey.
