The Equal Opportunities Commission has stressed that airline operators should not refuse a flight reservation or decline passengers with a valid ticket to board an aircraft on the grounds of disability or reduced mobility, other than for operational or safety reasons. It comes after the Hong Kong Blind Union called on transport operators to be more respectful and supportive of the disabled, after two visually impaired passengers were asked to leave a Hong Kong Express flight for safety reasons. The budget airline has since apologised over the incident in May. Kelly Yu has more.

Billy Wong, the Hong Kong Blind Union's president, said most visually impaired people can board flights without any problems. He told Kelly Yu that the Civil Aviation Department, as the supervising and coordinating authority, should do more to help people with visual impairments or disabilities to travel easily and equally in Hong Kong, which is an aviation hub.

A recent survey by the Society for Community Organisation has highlighted the difficulties faced by tenants living in subdivided flats during sweltering heat. Most of the 300 tenants surveyed said they had difficulty sleeping and felt unwell due to the intense heat. According to the Observatory, the temperature reached almost 35 degrees Celsius on Sunday afternoon. The survey also showed that the indoor temperature in these cramped flats could reach as high as 41 degrees Celsius. Sze Lai-shan, the organisation's deputy director, told Anne Chan that these tenants' utility bills are also increasing.

Students who have achieved a perfect score in the International Baccalaureate exams have expressed their desire to make a positive impact in their chosen fields and contribute to society. They come from seven schools run by the English Schools Foundation, which was proud to see 17 of its students achieve a perfect score of 45, more than double the number who did so last year.
