The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors has called on the government to set up a building maintenance body to reduce bid-rigging by enhancing transparency in the market. It suggested that the authority could be tasked with monitoring tendering procedures, as well as setting up a platform to oversee maintenance records of all private buildings. Vincent Ho, chairman of the Task Force on Building Repair, Maintenance, Alteration and Addition told Belle Yip the challenges that homeowners usually face in building maintenance work.

A local think tank says Hong Kong should fully transform itself into a super value-adder to help support national development in the next five years. Ray Poon, research director from POD Research Institute, said the SAR is "not too far away" from helping to transform the nation's technological breakthroughs completely into globally trusted, commercially viable services. He also told Janice Lo that the SAR government has adopted an innovative approach in the consultation document for its inaugural five-year plan.

Accounting firm PwC, has released its 2026 Hong Kong IPO Market mid-year review and outlook. The first half of the year saw Hong Kong ranked second in the global market, behind the Nasdaq in the US. The firm said it remains confident in the SAR IPO market's growth momentum, and expects new listings to raise HK$380 billion for 2026. The trial of two potential treatments for the Bundibugyo species of Ebola have begun in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. There are currently no approved vaccines or treatment for Ebola s Bundibugyo strain, which has caused more than 1,400 cases in DRC, including 438 deaths. Jamie Clarke has more:

While he reigned for nearly two decades as one of the most powerful figures in Washington and was long hailed as the "Maestro" of the US economy, his relentless push for financial deregulation and hands-free oversight created the perfect conditions for the devastating 2008 global financial crisis. RTHK's US Correspondent, Simon Marks told Azam Khan that Greenspan was a devoted acolyte of Russian-American author Ayn Rand, who's philosophy on unfettered capitalism helped shape Greenspan's reluctance to regulate the markets:
