Air raid sirens sounded in Israel as its military worked to intercept barrages of incoming Iranian missiles for the first time since an April ceasefire took hold in the Middle East war. Iran's Revolutionary Guards called the attack a "warning" after Israel struck Beirut's southern suburbs earlier in the day, threatening wider strikes in the event of repeated aggression. Lebanon says the attack killed two people and wounded twenty others. Jamie Clarke reports.

There has been surprise and anger among many top European officials after US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth used his weekend appearance at D-Day commemorations in France to launch fresh criticisms of mass migration taking place across the continent. The Defence Secretary spoke at an American military cemetery, but did not participate in the weekend’s main event after residents of the village hosting an international ceremony said he was no longer welcome there due to his “warlike statements” and American “supremacist viewpoints”. In December last year, Henry Nowak was handcuffed by police in Southampton despite suffering stab wounds after his killer falsely alleged a racist attack.
