After days of debate and delay, US president Donald Trump's sweeping tax- and spending-cut package has cleared the final hurdle in Congress. The White House said Trump will sign it into law later today. In voting against the bill, Democrats blasted it as a giveaway to the wealthy that would leave millions uninsured. The party's dismay was headlined by a mammoth speech by the top Democrat in the House of Representatives. Jamie Clarke reports:
Excitement in overdrive as PLA carrier group makes port call

People across the territory have given a big welcome to a People's Liberation Army naval fleet that sailed into town yesterday. Fans turned up at various spots to try to get the best vantage point to get a glimpse of the fleet - which is led by the aircraft carrier Shandong. The vessel was accompanied by missile destroyers Yan'an and Zhan-jiang, as well as the missile frigate Yun-cheng. Charlie Chun reports:

Lawmaker Chan Siu-hung says that the government's plan to allow cars from Guangdong province to drive into the SAR could boost the local economy. Speaking on an RTHK programme, Chan also noted the southbound travel scheme still faces some challenges, such as a lack of parking spaces and EV charging facilities. Russia 'not backing down' in Ukraine war, Putin tells Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin has told his American counterpart that Moscow won’t back down from its goals in Ukraine. That's according to a Kremlin aide, speaking after a phone call between the two leaders. As well as Ukraine, the pair spoke about Iran and other issues, in their sixth publicly disclosed chat since Donald Trump returned to the White House in January. Trump later told reporters that he made 'no progress' during his phone call with the Russian leader. Jamie Clarke has more:
Multinational firms told to sever ties with Israel - or risk being a part of war crimes

A United Nations expert has called on dozens of multinational companies to stop doing business with Israel, warning them they risk being complicit in war crimes in Gaza and the occupied West bank. The remarks came on the same day 94 Palestinians were killed by Israeli airstrikes and shooting. About half of them lost their lives attempting to get humanitarian aid. Hundreds of others in the West Bank were forced to flee a refugee camp after receiving Israeli demolition orders. They join the tens of thousands of people to be displaced by open-ended military offensive in the area. Jamie Clarke reports:
