A global test of a new drug for lung cancer has found that 55 percent of patients achieved seven years of progression-free survival, or PFS. The Chinese University's Faculty of Medicine says this is the longest PFS ever reported among targeted therapies. Professor Tony Mok, chairman of the Department of Clinical Oncology at CU Medicine, spoke to Eugenia Ma about the study.

Environmentalist welcomes Sharp Island proposal

A government proposal to convert parts of Sharp Island into a marine park has been welcomed by an environmentalist. The move follows overcrowding at the tourist attraction during the Golden Week holiday last month. Mainland PPI rises for third straight month

The mainland's Producer Price Index rose for a third straight month in May, recording its fastest pace since July 2022. This came on the back of higher energy prices caused by the Middle East conflict, and the disruption to oil and gas supplies. Consumer prices also climbed last month, with a rise in the cost of non-food items offsetting a plunge in pork prices. Raymond Yeung reports.

UCH introduces new treatment for nerve pain

The United Christian Hospital has introduced a new non-invasive treatment for patients with nerve pain. Clinically known as Scrambler therapy, the treatment retrains how the brain processes pain signals, which can bring prolonged relief to patients suffering from long-term neuropathic pain. Dr Charmaine Chu, chief of service of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the hospital, said patients receiving the treatment have experienced an immediate reduction in nerve pain intensity by around 80 percent. She told Matthew Hung how the Scrambler therapy works.
US launches fresh strikes on Iran amid Trump threat

The United States has launched fresh air strikes against Iran, with explosions reported in multiple cities near the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Iran's top military command announced the closure of the vital waterway, saying any vessel that attempts passage will be shot at. US President Donald Trump had vowed to hit Iran hard after accusing Tehran’s negotiators of “playing us for suckers.” Jamie Clarke reports.
Motive yet to be established for Belfast knife attack

A second night of violent anti-immigration protests has erupted in Northern Ireland after a Sudanese asylum seeker was charged with a brutal knife attack, which occurred on Monday night. Forty-four-year-old Stephen Ogilvy lost his left eye and suffered injuries to his right eye, neck and back in the attack. The suspect, 30-year-old Hadi Alodid, has made a brief court appearance to face attempted murder and other charges. Our Europe correspondent Gavin Grey told Todd Harding that a motive had yet to be established.

Police battled protesters in a second night of violence in Northern Ireland after a brutal stabbing on Monday night. Police fired water cannons as anti-immigrant protesters lit fires and hurled objects. Authorities say disorder is being stoked by far-right activists on social media. Earlier, a Sudanese man was charged with attempted murder and other offences after a stabbing in which a man lost his right eye and suffered injuries to his neck and back. Jamie Clarke reports.
