An unprecedented signal failure discovered by the MTR Corporation has caused transport chaos on Hong Kong's main rail lines throughout the morning. There were chaotic scenes at many MTR stations with tens of thousands of people left stranded. And as Candice Wong reports, those who tried to look for other forms of public transport didn't do much better.
Michael Tien suspects system upgrade causes signal fault Listen
The chairman of Legco's Railways Subcommittee, Michael Tien, said there is a high chance that the glitches were caused by a signalling system upgrade along the Tsuen Wan Line overnight. He told Jim Gould that the design of the railway system, which bundles up the Tsuen Wan, Kwun Tong, Island and Tseung Kwan O lines, meant a single problem along one line could severely affect the operation of the others.
