Justice Secretary’s co-location comments branded ‘ridiculous’  Listenfacebook
Civic Party lawmaker and barrister Dennis Kwok says comments by the Secretary for Justice, Teresa Cheng, dismissing concerns about the legality of the proposed co-location arrangement for the high-speed rail link to Guangdong were “ridiculous” and “condescending”. Kwok was speaking after Cheng told lawmakers that the government doesn’t need to cite any specific Basic Law article to allow for the arrangement, which would allow mainland laws to apply in parts of the rail link’s West Kowloon terminus. RTHK’s Jim Gould asked Kwok what he made of these remarks:

The chairperson of the Hong Kong Committee on Children’s Rights has questioned the effectiveness of a new government guidelines intended to identify potential cases of child abuse. The government’s instructed local kindergartens to inform authorities when children have been absent for seven straight school days. But Priscilla Lui told Annemarie Evans that the government needs to be more proactive.
Mainland authorities take control of Anbang Insurance Group  Listenfacebook
The mainland’s insurance regulatory has announced it will take over the Anbang Insurance Group for the next year, saying the firm’s been engaged in illegal operations that seriously endanger its solvency. The company’s former chairman is being prosecuted for economic crimes. China analyst Mark O’Neill told Annemarie Evans that the move is a significant blow to the development of private capital in the mainland.
