A concern group on Sunday said self-financed tertiary institutions in Hong Kong are generally not making the grade when it comes to protecting students and staff against sexual harassment.

The Association for the Advancement of Feminism assessed the policies of 18 schools and found that while publicly-funded universities tend to have robust measures against harassment, self-financed institutes fare significantly worse.

It says out of a checklist of 36 advisable policies against harassment, these schools only fulfil around half - compared to 80 percent in public universities.

But Repona Tai, who led the study, says all schools can benefit from clearly spelling out the penalties for sexual harassment.
