Veteran banker David Li will step down as chief executive of the Bank of East Asia at the end of this month, passing the torch to his two sons, the bank announced on Thursday.

Adrian and Brian Li will share the chief executive position between them, while their father, who is 80, will become executive chairman on July 1.

The bank's board said having two chief executives will be a good move, with the Li brothers able to supplement each other to support the bank's growth.

David Li has been the bank's chief executive for 38 years.
