Police have fired rounds of tear gas at protesters during a standoff outside the police New Territories North Regional headquarters in Tai Po that lasted for hours on Monday afternoon.
More than a thousand demonstrators marched from a football pitch in Tai Po where they had just attended an anti-extradition rally.
Protesters put up makeshift barricades to block major roads near the police station, such as the Tai Po Tai Wo road, while officers also set up their cordon line.
Demonstrators charged towards officers and threw objects at them, despite police warnings for them to stop.
Officers started firing tear gas at the protesters outside the police station from 5pm. Some protesters retreated into a shopping mall nearby while others refused to leave.
