A short video uploaded by the People’s Daily onto its Weibo page shows People's Armed Police conducting anti-riot exercises in Shenzhen on Thursday.
It appears to be the fourth such exercise since the paramilitary police started massing in the border city earlier this month.
The minute-long video shows a large number of armed police and public security officers wearing anti-riot equipment, holding shields and forming multiple phalanxes and dispatched water.
Water cannon are also seen being used against a large number of "demonstrators" wearing yellow helmets, and carrying umbrellas, wooden sticks and other items to attack the public security line.
The police eventually dispersed the "protesters" with baton charges, water cannon and tear gas.
