Hundreds of riot police took to the streets of Mong Kok on Monday night, using pepper spray and at least one round of tear gas after protesters gathered at Prince Edward MTR Station, scene of a police raid on Saturday. Some protesters responded with petrol bombs.
Officers hoisted warning flags as protesters forced the closure of some lanes of Prince Edward Road West and Nathan Road near Mong Kok Police Station. Some shone laser pens towards the police station.
The roads reopened after police moved in, though many people returned to the scene as officers left.
Footage from the scene showed at least two people were seen to have been taken away by police. Large numbers of people were stopped by police and forced to kneel by the roadside.
Baptist University's student union said its president, Keith Fong was arrested on suspicion of theft. It said the item he was carrying was a piece of property which he had been planning to return to the student who lost it.
Many of the protesters were furious at the police's actions on Saturday, when dozens of people were arrested at Prince Edward station as police charged onto a train with batons and pepper spray.
A large number of flowers had been left outside the station.
