  • First aider seriously hurt during tear gas firing
A volunteer first aider suffered serious burns to his back on Saturday after apparently being hit by a tear gas canister.

The incident happened at around 6pm, when police were firing multiple rounds of tear gas to disperse crowds near the Times Square shopping mall in Causeway Bay.

According to witness accounts and photos captured by City Broadcasting Channel – a news platform operated by student journalists at City University – a spark was seen close to the back of the male first aider soon after police opened fire.

The young man then fell to the ground with serious burns to his back. Reports at the scene said he suffered some kind of fit and lost consciousness at one point.

He was treated by other volunteer first aiders before being sent to hospital for treatment.
