Anti-government protests have continued to cause severe disruptions to the rail network, with large sections of the MTR’s East Rail line crippled and 16 stations to close early at eight on Sunday evening.

The MTR said with violent protests around the Hung Hom station, services between there and Mong Kok East have been suspended, while there are no services either at the Fo Tan to Tai Po Market section of the line.

Sheung Shui and Racecourse stations are still closed because of severe damage to facilities there.

Sixteen stations, including Kwai Fong, Mong Kok, Wong Tai Sin, Kwun Tong, Whampoa, Causeway Bay, Sai Wan Ho, HKU, Hung Hom, Shatin, Yuen Long, Tuen Mun, Ma On Shan, Sha Tin Wai, Tseung Kwan O, and Hang Hau will suspend services early at 8pm, with all other MTR services to wrap up at 10pm.

Some Light Rail services are also disrupted, with services in Tin Shui Wai completely suspended.
