  • Police quickly shut down Central lunchtime protest
Police in riot gear put a quick end to another lunchtime protest in the Central business district, in which office workers had taken over a portion of Pedder Street.

A crowd had congregated on the road at about 1pm on Tuesday – as they had done all of last week, and on Monday – and chanted anti-government protest slogans.

On previous days, the police have taken a non-confrontational approach to these protests, which have seen the intersection with Des Voeux Road Central overtaken, and barricades set up on Connaught Road Central near Exchange Square.

On Tuesday, riot police walked into Pedder Street about 15 minutes after the protest had started, and those who were on the street returned to the pavement.

Officers there raised a blue flag, indicating that the gathering was a breach of the law and ordering those there to disperse.

However, those who remained on the pavement – many wearing face masks – instead peppered the police with verbal abuse and insults.
