Primary and secondary schools will reopen on Wednesday, the government has announced, although kindergartens will remain closed until Monday at the earliest.

"Since the road and traffic conditions have gradually become stable, classes of primary schools, secondary schools and some special schools will resume tomorrow (November 20)," education officials said in a statement.

"As some roads and public transport services have not fully resumed or diversions are needed, the Education Bureau reminds students and parents to plan their journey in advance and pay attention to traffic news and relevant announcements before leaving home tomorrow morning."

The bureau said some schools may need more time to resume classes if they have been affected by recent incidents.

It added that students should not "wander in the streets" after school and should return home as soon as possible.

"They should stay away from danger and must not participate in unlawful activities," the statement said.

Schools have been shut since last Thursday due to the ongoing unrest, with many roads blocked and transport services severely disrupted.
