Hundreds of people marched along Lower Albert Road to just below the US consulate on Sunday, to thank President Donald Trump for signing the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act, which is aimed at holding local and mainland officials accountable for any abuses.

They symbolically handed in a petition to someone wearing a Trump mask. The police had barred them from going up Garden Road.

The demonstrators earlier rallied in Chater Garden, many holding US national flags and placards calling on President Trump to “make Hong Kong great again”.

One of them, Peter, said he doesn’t think the US is interfering with Hong Kong’s affairs.

"The act itself is the internal affairs of the US, of how they view Hong Kong, how they would like to treat Hong Kong. So it's basically the US internal affairs, so I don't really see the connection."

Another demonstrator said senior government officials need to be aware that the whole world is watching their actions.
