The ‘Fridays for Future’ movement has seen millions of young people all over the world strike from school and stage demonstrations demanding that their governments treat climate change as an emergency.
In Hong Kong, 10-year-old Lance Lau has been doing his part to support the movement. Every Friday morning, he’ll get up early and begin his protest for climate action outside his primary school.
He’s been doing this for nearly four months now – going up to classmates and their parents as they reach the school in the morning, and telling them about what steps they can take to live a more eco-conscious life.
Lance has come a long way from his first forays into environmental activism. He says his schoolmates used to call him an idiot, and others told him to get back into the classroom.
But Lance says he’s never thought about stopping, and takes inspiration from the Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, who at 16-years-old has just been named Time’s youngest Person of the Year.
He spoke to RTHK about his activism, what he does to live a greener life, and what everyone can do to contribute to a more sustainable future.
