The manager of a restaurant in Mong Kok where a boy was injured in a fall overnight said the incident happened around the time riot police officers burst into the establishment.

A member of staff was subdued and arrested as he tried to stop the police storming the Jie Genge restaurant on Portland Street, the manager surnamed Wong said.

Wong said some "neighbours" had gone into the restaurant to seek sanctuary from the police at around 2am. But officers raced inside, without his permission, to search for people.

A 16-year-old boy fell to the street from the rooftop of the restaurant around the same time, Wong said.

The teenager was in a stable condition in hospital after being injured.

The restaurant boss said the police had caused chaos during their raid and had damaged some of the facilities inside the establishment.
