Shanghai Disneyland will close until further notice this weekend due to the deadly Wuhan virus outbreak that has infected hundreds of people, the amusement park said on Friday.

The move was decided "in response to the prevention and control of the disease outbreak and in order to ensure the health and safety" of its guests and staff, Shanghai Disney Resort said on its website.

"We will continue to carefully monitor the situation and be in close contact with the local government, and we will announce the reopening date upon confirmation," it said, adding that guests who had purchased tickets or booked a resort hotel would be reimbursed.

The closure comes as transport bans in multiple parts of Hubei province have barred some 32 million people from travelling over the Lunar New Year holiday.

Rail, bus, ferries and boats have stopped running in a total of nine cities, with flights to the province also curtailed.

Lunar New Year events have been cancelled on the mainland, as well as in Hong Kong and Macau, to help prevent the further spread of the Sars-like virus, that has already killed more than two dozen people. (Additional reporting by AFP)
