Cathay Pacific on Friday said it would waive charges for any customers who want to cancel or rebook flights to the mainland over the next few weeks, due to the Wuhan virus outbreak.

Cathay Dragon flights to and from the Hubei capital are already cancelled until February 29.

But Cathay said it will also waive fees for flights already booked to any mainland city between now and the end of next month.

"We are monitoring the situation closely and will continue to coordinate with the health authorities in Hong Kong and in all the ports to which we operate flights. At present, flights to other mainland China ports are operating as normal," the airline said in a statement.

Hong Kong Airlines, meanwhile, announced a similar fee waiver arrangement for its flights to the mainland, as did Hong Kong Express for its service to Ningbo.

Wuhan is the epicentre of the Sars-like virus outbreak, but infections have been reported across the country, with at least one of the more than 25 fatalities coming in the capital.

Several Hong Kong travel agencies have announced they are cancelling all tour groups to the mainland over the Lunar New Year holiday, and some right up until the end of February.
