Death toll from Wuhan virus rises to at least 106

The death toll from a coronavirus outbreak in China has soared to 106 while nearly 1,300 new cases have been confirmed, authorities said on Tuesday.

The health commission in central Hubei province, whose capital Wuhan is the epicentre of the epidemic, said 24 more people had died from the virus and 1,291 more people were infected, raising the total number of confirmed cases to more than 4,000 nationwide.

Meanwhile, the National Health Commission in Beijing on Tuesday announced 4,515 confirmed cases had been reported in 30 provincial-level regions by the end of Monday. It also said 106 people had died from the disease and that 976 patients were in critical condition. It said 6,973 people were suspected of being infected with the virus as of the end of Monday and that 60 people had been discharged from hospital after recovering.
