The new union representing public hospital medical workers on Sunday said they were cancelling their meeting with Hospital Authority management on Sunday afternoon because Chief Executive Carrie Lam was not going.

The Hospital Authority Employees' Alliance had wanted the Hong Kong leader to attend.

The union overwhelmingly approved plans to go on strike starting on Monday over their demands for the government to fully close the border to the mainland from non-locals.

It said Lam's refusal to attend means talks had already broken down.
