Police on Wednesday said they have arrested a jobless teen and charged him with drug possession, but officers think he may have links to a fund that was used to help anti-government protesters.

Police officials told a media briefing that they think the 18-year-old had “unusual banking transactions” with a shell company owned by Spark Alliance, a crowdsourced fund that was set up to support protesters, ranging from financial aid to subsidising their legal fees.

Four members linked to the fund were arrested for money laundering in December.

Police said the teen they arrested on Tuesday had a few transactions worth HK$48,000 over a few weeks in October and November last year with the company.

They said their probe found it to be unusual because he did not have such transactions like this in the past.

Police also suspect he sold drugs to three people who were found with ketamine, cocaine and marijuana.
