For the first time, a pet cat has tested positive for Covid-19. It belongs to a confirmed coronavirus patient.

It's the third animal to be infected in Hong Kong, following two earlier cases in which two dogs tested weak positive or positive during repeated tests for the virus.

When the owner, who lives in Aberdeen, was confirmed with Covid-19 on Monday, the cat was sent for quarantine at the animal keeping facility at the Hong Kong Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said the virus was found in the cat’s oral cavity, nasal and rectal samples.

But the cat has not shown any symptoms. It's being kept under quarantine, and will be closely monitored by officials.
