Police said on Wednesday that they have arrested three teenagers in connection with a firebomb attack on the force's station in Tai Po in the early hours.

The three males are all in secondary school and are aged between 16 and 18.

Tai Po district assistant commander Johnson Chong said five petrol bombs were thrown, and three of them landed inside the station's grounds.

He said two of the suspects are also accused of assaulting officers after allegedly resisting arrest.

Chong added that there were 16 firebomb attacks against police buildings in the past three months, involving 71 petrol bombs.

He noted that arson is a serious crime that carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
