Joanne Wong reports
The year of protests that started with a peaceful march of an estimated one million people on June 9, 2019, has left Hong Kong divided, fractured and scarred.

Despite the massive show of discontent, the Carrie Lam administration decided to ignore the views of the marchers, and ploughed ahead with its hugely unpopular, and now-shelved, extradition bill that would have allowed the transfer of criminal suspects to the mainland.

The result was a series of ever-escalating protests that not only left the society at large bitterly divided; they also broke up many families unable to reconcile the conflicting political views of their members.

RTHK’s Joanne Wong spoke to three families to see how they have been affected by the unprecedented unrest.
