Police arrested 14 people on Thursday after protesters marched and shouted anti-government slogans at a Yuen Long shopping mall.

Riot officers had entered the YOHO mall in the afternoon, after demonstrators shouted out slogans such as “Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times”, and “disband the police!”

Officers cordoned off some areas in the mall as some shops rolled down their shutters.

In a statement, police said some protesters unlawfully gathered at the mall at about 2pm, “creating nuisances to shoppers and resulting in closure of shops.”

It said officers entered the mall to disperse the crowd and make arrests, warning people there to stop breaking the law while vowing to continue taking “resolute enforcement action”.

The force later said nine males and five females aged between 14 and 55 have been arrested for unlawful assembly.

In a tweet, the police accused the suspects of "harassing families and shoppers on #DragonBoatFestival."
