China's lawmakers have reviewed a draft of the national security bill for Hong Kong during a special meeting held by the National People's Congress Standing Committee, state media Xinhua reported on Sunday.

In the meeting, Shen Chunyao, director of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the NPC Standing Committee, presented a review of the bill. But no details of the bill was provided in the Xinhua report.

The meeting at the Great Hall of the People was chaired by the chairman of the Standing Committee, Li Zhanshu. It also vetted other bills before the mainland legislature.

The special session, which began on Sunday, is scheduled to last for three days. Pro-Beijing heavyweights said they expect a vote at the session on the national security bill, which targets secession, subversion, terrorism activities and collusion with external forces. (Reuters, RTHK)
