The newly appointed committee created to oversee national security matters in Hong Kong held its first meeting on Monday, the government has announced.

The panel is headed by Chief Executive Carrie Lam and includes key members of her cabinet.

The head of Beijing’s liaison office, Luo Huining, also took part as the mainland-appointed official who will advise the committee.

Others in the panel are Police Commissioner Chris Tang, Deputy Commissioner Edwina Lau, who heads the new police unit set up for the task, and heads of other disciplined services like the customs and immigration departments, as well as the director of the Chief Executive's Office.

All of them took part in the first meeting of the committee.
