Police officers have warned protesters in Causeway Bay that they may have broken the national security law, after some started chanting the anti-government slogan “Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times”.

Officers unfurled the purple flag shortly after 2.30pm, which warned protesters that their shouting slogans or displaying banners could have committed secession or subversion, or other offences stated in the national security law.

The police has issued numerous warnings to protesters earlier, saying they may have breached the public gathering ban on more than four people, as well as breached the public order ordinance.

Officers told the crowd to disperse, saying they could be arrested and prosecuted otherwise.

The SAR government in July had declared that the popular protest slogan "Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times" carries a Hong Kong independence message, or strives to separate Hong Kong from the People's Republic of China and change the SAR's legal status.
