Health officials reported five more Covid-19 cases on Saturday, including one locally acquired infection with an unknown source.

Chuang Shuk-kwan, who heads the Centre for Health Protection’s branch of communicable disease, says the 56-year-old construction supervisor had been to sites in Penny's Bay and Dynasty Heights on Beacon Hill during his incubation period.

The man had also worked in a construction site at the Penny’s Bay in the middle of October, where authorities are building more quarantine facilities there.

Chuang said the quarantine facility has not been open to the public yet, and a preliminary investigation found the man should have no linkage or contacts with the people under quarantine in the vicinity of the area.

She said at least 10 of his colleagues will be quarantined because they didn’t always put their face masks on.

“During the communicable period, he mainly stayed at office or at home, so there are no other workers in construction sites that are required to be sent to quarantine camp,” said Chuang.

“But for the source tracing, we will distribute bottles to those concerned workers and other people he met during the incubation period to see whether there are other unlinked or possible silent transmissions.”

The remaining four confirmed cases are imported infections, with the patients arriving from France, Indonesia, Pakistan and the United Kingdom.

Chuang added a 42-year-old man has also tested preliminary positive without a known source. She said the man lives in Tseung Kwan O with his family and works in a Sheung Wan office.

The city's tally of confirmed infections stood at 5,289 on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Royal Garden hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui also reopened on Saturday, having closed for two weeks after several of their staff and guests tested positive for the virus.

Its guest rooms and gyms have now opened their doors again, but the restaurants inside the hotel will reopen later on Thursday.
