The police have arrested two people on suspicion of helping two suspects linked to the city's social unrest to flee the city.

Officers said the pair who fled are wanted in connection with an incident in November 2019 when a man was set ablaze in Ma On Shan following an argument with a group of people at the height of the anti-government protests.

The pair, aged 17 and 25, are believed to have left the city shortly after the incident.

An acting superintendent of the Commercial Crime Bureau, Ng Kei-chun, said on Friday two people were arrested in flats in Chai Wan and Yuen Long. They allegedly helped the suspects buy plane tickets.

The police said 18 people have been arrested in connection with the incident in Ma On Shan on various offences, including rioting and criminal damage.

The police have also made arrests in the case of 12 Hongkongers who fled the city last August by speedboat. Eleven people, including Democratic Party district councillor and lawyer, Daniel Wong, were detained on Thursday on suspicion of helping the group escape.
