Executive councillor Regina Ip says she got a BioNTech jab this week, after a blood test revealed she had no antibodies left from the two Sinovac shots she received around half a year ago.

Ip, who had been among the first people in Hong Kong to take the Sinovac vaccine, told Commercial Radio on Friday that she was not surprised to find out that she no longer had antibodies to protect her against Covid.

Offered a booster shot as part of a Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital study, Ip said she opted for the BioNTech jab this time and was given a dose on Thursday.

“I wanted to try out BioNTech, because my daughter chose BioNTech. Her reaction was very strong. After the second shot, she was unwell for a whole day,” the New People's Party leader said.

“I know there are people around the world who became unwell after they were inoculated, but the ratio is very low. I have been rather healthy, so I want to try to mix the vaccines to see the effect, that’s all.”

Ip said she was feeling rather tired after getting her latest jab. She added that doctors will be monitoring her antibody levels over the next 180 days.
