Authorities in the city of Kaohsiung in Taiwan on Thursday said 46 people had died in a fire at a residential building.
The fire broke out in the 40-year-old building in the early hours of the morning in the city's Yancheng district. It was put out before dawn and firefighters have been going through the building to look for survivors.
The building had been partly abandoned, having previously been host to restaurants, karaoke lounges, and a cinema.
Authorities are now investigating the cause, including the possibility of arson. (Reuters)
