Chief Executive Carrie Lam on Wednesday helped to package anti-epidemic kits at Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wan Chai.

The packs, which include rapid test kits, KN95 masks, and proprietary Chinese medicine, are set to be distributed to all Hong Kong households from this weekend.

The Federation of Trade Unions said it has recruited more than 8,000 volunteers to help with the packaging work, including people from various unions and community groups.

FTU lawmaker Alice Mak urged more people to join in, saying simply having the intention to contribute to society is not enough.

“Many Hong Kong people do want to do something during this fifth wave of pandemic. We have received many requests from Hong Kong people that they do want to do something and want to contribute their efforts,” she said.

“This is a very good beginning that many Hong Kong people can volunteer to join some kind of community service.”

Mak added that they are also looking for more volunteers to help with the distribution of the anti-epidemic kits, which she said will be more labour-intensive.
